A Nassau tradition, visiting an authentic Straw Market is a sensory experience unlike any other. Make your way through aisles lined with colorful and eclectic wares, enthusiastic vendors, woven and carved creations, Bahamian-style clothing, and memorable treasures that capture the spirit of the islands.
A major historical landmark, this staircase of 66 steps was hand-carved out of limestone in the late 1700s by approximately 600 enslaved people to enable a direct route to hilltop Fort Fincastle in case of attack. Its base is now a lush grotto lined with palms—a cool oasis from which to view the staircase, or to climb it and enjoy the views from Bennet's Hill.
Explore or enjoy a guided tour of the four galleries of this world-class museum housed in the historic Villa Doyle, a short walk from downtown Nassau. Showcasing work ranging from the traditional to the contemporary, and encompassing all visual art forms, the gallery also features works from its National Collection that traces the roots and evolution of Bahamian art.
